Chinese ordinary passport holders need a visa for Ghana and can now apply online through Ghana's national e-Visa portal, launched 25 May 2026. China is among the 190+ eligible nationalities. Non-African nationals pay the standard e-Visa fee (USD 260 single entry, standard processing). The previous walk-up visa-on-arrival was discontinued, so secure your e-Visa before you fly. As of 31 May 2026, holders of an ordinary passport of the People's Republic of China require a visa to enter Ghana for tourism; only diplomatic, official and service passport holders are visa-exempt. On 25 May 2026 the Ghana Immigration Service, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched a national e-Visa portal at evisa.immigration.gov.gh, which is the recommended route for Chinese tourists. The platform lets eligible non-African travellers complete the form, upload documents, pay online, track the file and receive a digital e-Visa. African passport holders now travel fee-free (free ETA), but non-African nationals including Chinese citizens pay the standard e-Visa fee: USD 260 for a single-entry visa under normal processing (3-5 business days), with priority (48-hour, USD 338) and express (5-hour, USD 442) tiers available; multiple-entry starts at USD 468. The e-Visa is typically valid about 3 months with a 30-day permitted stay per entry. The former emergency/visa-on-arrival walk-up channel has effectively been discontinued in favour of the online system, and the standard rule is to apply before departure. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry to Ghana, and the passport must be valid for at least 6 months with onward/return travel evidence.
