Chinese ordinary passport holders need a visa for Burkina Faso. The recommended route is the official eVisa applied for online at visaburkina.bf before travel. Diplomatic, official, service and "public affairs" passports are exempt for up to 90 days, but ordinary tourist passports are not. A Chinese citizen holding an ordinary (regular) passport requires a visa to enter Burkina Faso for tourism or a short visit. Burkina Faso launched its official electronic visa system (visaburkina.bf) on 17 August 2023, and the eVisa is now the fastest and most practical way for Chinese travelers to obtain authorization in advance. The eVisa is applied for and paid for entirely online and authorizes a stay of up to 90 days. Alternatively, a traditional visa can be obtained from a Burkinabe diplomatic mission. Visa on arrival is offered to a list of around 52 nationalities at the airport and land borders (roughly 94,000 CFA for single entry), but China is not reliably confirmed on that list for ordinary passports, so the eVisa is the conservative, recommended option. Note: only diplomatic, official, service, and "for public affairs" Chinese passports enjoy visa exemption for up to 90 days; ordinary passports do not. Travelers should also be aware that Burkina Faso has an active security situation, and a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry.
