Chinese ordinary passport holders can travel to Azerbaijan visa-free for tourism. Since the China-Azerbaijan mutual visa exemption agreement took effect on July 16, 2025, no visa is required for stays of up to 30 days per visit, capped at 90 days total within any 180-day period. As of 2026-05-30, holders of ordinary Chinese passports do NOT need a visa to enter Azerbaijan for tourism or short visits. A mutual visa exemption agreement for ordinary passport holders was signed on April 23, 2025 and entered into force on July 16, 2025. Under it, Chinese citizens may enter, exit, or transit Azerbaijan without a visa for up to 30 days per visit, with a cumulative limit of 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. This replaced the earlier temporary unilateral waiver (July 2024 to July 2025) and the prior ASAN e-Visa requirement, both of which are now superseded for short tourist visits. The waiver applies only to ordinary passports for tourism, family visits, business, and transit. Stays longer than 30 days, or travel to work, study, settle, or conduct journalism, still require an appropriate visa obtained in advance. Travelers should carry proof of accommodation, onward/return tickets, and sufficient funds. The passport should be valid for the duration of stay; a 6-month validity margin is recommended as standard practice. Visitors staying more than 15 days must register with the State Migration Service, which hotels typically handle automatically.
