Tanzania is a visa-required destination for Canadian ordinary passport holders. Canada is on Tanzania's list of eligible nationalities, so a Canadian tourist applies for the Ordinary Visa (single entry), which permits tourism, visiting friends/relatives, meetings, workshops and exhibitions, and allows a stay of up to 90 days. The official Tanzania Immigration eVisa portal (visa.immigration.go.tz) is the recommended channel, and the fee is USD 50. While visa-on-arrival technically remains available to eligible nationalities (including Canadians) at main ports of entry such as Julius Nyerere International Airport, Kilimanjaro International Airport, and Zanzibar, the immigration authority and the Government of Canada both advise obtaining the eVisa in advance to avoid delays or refusal of entry. Multiple-entry tourist visas are generally reserved for US nationals; Canadians needing multiple entries should arrange this before travel. Passports must be valid at least six months beyond the intended departure date, and travelers must show proof of a return or onward ticket. Visitors to Zanzibar must also purchase the mandatory Zanzibar travel insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation. Tanzania is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
