Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit TJ?
Canadian ordinary passport holders can visit Tajikistan visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism. No visa or eVisa is needed for short stays. An optional eVisa exists for longer trips (up to 60 days), and a separate GBAO permit is required for the Pamir/Gorno-Badakhshan region. Since 1 January 2022, Tajikistan has operated a unilateral visa-free regime for citizens of 52 countries, including Canada, allowing ordinary passport holders to enter and stay for up to 30 days without any visa. This is confirmed by the Government of Canada's official travel advisory, which states Canadian tourists and business travelers do not need a visa for stays up to 30 days. For longer visits, Tajikistan also offers an electronic visa (eVisa) granting a maximum stay of up to 60 days. Travelers must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond entry. Visitors staying more than 10 days must register with local authorities (eVisa holders are exempt). Anyone planning to visit the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO/Pamir region) must obtain a separate special permit, which can be added during the eVisa application or arranged through Tajik authorities. The verdict for a short tourist stay is unambiguously visa-free.
