Canadian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit El Salvador for tourism. You may enter visa-free and stay for up to 180 days. A passport valid on entry with at least one blank page is required, and the previous USD 12 tourist card fee was eliminated in 2025, so entry is now free. El Salvador grants Canadian ordinary passport holders visa-free entry for tourism. The Government of Canada's official travel advisory states that no tourist, business, or student visa is required for stays of up to 180 days. El Salvador's published visa policy places Canada in its top visa-exemption category. Visitors should hold a passport valid on the date of entry (six months' validity is widely recommended) with at least one blank page, and may be asked to show an onward/return ticket and proof of sufficient funds. Historically, most visa-exempt arrivals paid a USD 12 tourist card on arrival; El Salvador eliminated this fee in 2025, so entry is now free of charge. Note the Central America-4 (CA-4) Border Control Agreement: while El Salvador itself can authorize up to 180 days, time spent in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua counts toward a shared 90-day allowance recognized by those neighbors, and the immigration officer at first entry sets the actual authorized stay. El Salvador is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
