Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit SK?
Canadian passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Slovakia for tourism. Slovakia is in the Schengen area, so Canadians may stay visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. As of 2026, no ETIAS is required yet (launch is planned for Q4 2026), but the EES biometric registration applies at the border. Slovakia is a member of the European Union and the Schengen area. Canadian ordinary passport holders are visa-exempt for short stays and may enter for tourism, business, or transit without a visa for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen zone. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date from Schengen and generally issued within the previous 10 years. As of 31 May 2026, no pre-travel authorization is required: ETIAS (a 20 EUR online authorization comparable to Canada's eTA) is scheduled to launch in Q4 2026, after which Canadians will need it, but it is not yet in force. The Entry/Exit System (EES) — automated biometric registration of face and fingerprints at the external border — went live on 12 October 2025 and applies on arrival, with no advance application needed. Travelers should be prepared to show proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, sufficient funds, and travel/health insurance. Overstaying or working requires a national residence permit.
