Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit RW?
Canadian passport holders can enter Rwanda visa-free for up to 30 days. As Canada is a Commonwealth member, the visa is issued on arrival with the fee waived, and no advance application is required. A Canadian ordinary passport holder does not need to arrange a visa before traveling to Rwanda for tourism or a short visit. Rwanda's Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration grants nationals of Commonwealth, African Union and La Francophonie member states a fee-waived visa on arrival valid for 30 days. Because Canada is a Commonwealth member, Canadians effectively enter visa-free: the entry permit is stamped at Kigali International Airport or a land border at no charge, with no online application or prior authorization needed. Travelers should still carry a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival, proof of onward/return travel, and accommodation details. For stays longer than 30 days, or for those who simply prefer to arrive with paperwork in hand, an online application via Rwanda's Irembo portal is available but optional. There is no eVisa, ETA or vaccine-mandate barrier for travelers arriving from Canada, though a yellow fever certificate is required only if arriving from or transiting a yellow-fever-endemic country. This route is not affected by Schengen or ETIAS rules, which do not apply to Rwanda.
