Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit PG?
Canadian passport holders need a visa for Papua New Guinea, but it is easy to obtain online. Apply for the Easy Visitor Permit (EVP) eVisa through the official ICA portal before you fly, or get a visa on arrival at Port Moresby's Jacksons International Airport. The eVisa costs about US$50 and allows a 60-day single-entry stay. A Canadian (ordinary passport) traveling to Papua New Guinea for tourism is NOT visa-free, but PNG runs a streamlined electronic visa system. Canada is on PNG's list of visa-on-arrival eligible countries, which means Canadians can apply online in advance for the Easy Visitor Permit (EVP) eVisa or, alternatively, obtain it on arrival at Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby. The Government of Canada and PNG's Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) both recommend securing the e-visa before departure to avoid delays. The visitor EVP is single-entry, valid for a 60-day stay from the date of arrival, costs US$50 (online lodgement), and is processed within roughly 10 working days. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months. Separately, all arrivals must complete the PNG Digital Arrival Card (PNGDAC) online within 72 hours before arrival; this is mandatory and free, but it is NOT a visa. As of 2026 there are no visa-free or mutual visa-waiver arrangements between Canada and PNG, so plan to apply through the eVisa channel. PNG is not part of the Schengen area, so the 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
