Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit MZ?
Canadian ordinary passport holders are visa-exempt for tourist stays of up to 30 days in Mozambique, but since 11 February 2026 they MUST obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online before boarding. No traditional visa or visa-on-arrival is needed for short tourist visits. Canada is one of roughly 29 countries that Mozambique exempts from short-stay visas. However, exemption no longer means turning up at the airport with nothing: under the digital entry system launched on 11 February 2026 (run by the National Migration Service / SENAMI with VFS Global at evisa.gov.mz), visa-exempt nationals including Canadians must register online and obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before departure. The ETA is a single-entry, pre-travel permit for tourism or business visits of up to 30 days; it is not a full visa. Canadians who need longer stays, multiple entries, or other travel purposes must instead apply for an eVisa (available for 30, 60 or 90 days). The Government of Canada confirms the ETA requirement and advises obtaining it at least 48 hours before departure; in practice approval can take up to 48 hours, so applying several days ahead is prudent. Passports must be valid at least six months beyond the planned departure date and have at least two blank pages. Visa-on-arrival still technically exists at some entry points but is unreliable in 2026 and should not be counted on. Mozambique is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
