Canadian ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Madagascar for tourism. The simplest route is the official online eVisa (single-entry, up to 90 days), which can be applied for 1 week to 6 months before travel. Visa on arrival at Antananarivo airport is also available at the same price, but queues can be long. There is no visa-free entry for any nationality. As of 30 May 2026, Madagascar requires a tourist visa from all foreign nationals, including Canadian ordinary passport holders. There is no visa-free option. Travelers can obtain a single-entry tourist eVisa through the official government portal (evisamada-mg.com), or a visa on arrival at Ivato/Antananarivo international airport at identical pricing. The recommended channel is the online eVisa, since it is authorized within about 72 hours and avoids airport queues. Fees scale with stay length: roughly EUR 25-30 for up to 15 days, EUR 35 for 16-30 days, EUR 40 for 31-60 days, and EUR 50 for 61-90 days. Note: effective 16 February 2026 the short-stay 15-day eVisa fee was raised from EUR 10 to EUR 30/USD 35; the official portal fee table currently displays EUR 25 for 1-15 days, so budget for the higher figure. The passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond the entry date with at least one to two blank pages, and a return/onward ticket plus proof of accommodation/funds may be requested. Madagascar is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
