Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit MD?

Canadian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Moldova. You can enter visa-free and stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Canada is on the Republic of Moldova's visa-exemption list, so ordinary Canadian passport holders may travel to Moldova for tourism without obtaining a visa in advance or on arrival. The permitted visa-free stay is up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Moldova is NOT part of the Schengen Area and is not an EU member, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply here; Moldova maintains its own independent 90/180 calculation. At the border, Canadian travelers should carry a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date with at least one blank page, proof of a return or onward ticket, and evidence of sufficient funds (border authorities may ask for roughly EUR 30 per day, minimum around EUR 300). Visa-free entry is for tourism, family visits, business meetings, and similar short stays only; paid work or activities requiring a permit are not allowed. Travelers who wish to stay longer than 90 days, work, study, or take up residence must apply for the appropriate visa or residence permit. Note also that the breakaway Transnistria region has separate, unpredictable entry controls. Sources verified: Government of Canada travel advisory and the Moldova Ministry of Foreign Affairs / eVisa portal, both confirming Canada's visa-exempt status as of 2026-05-30.
