Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit LU?
No. Canadian ordinary passport holders do not need a visa for Luxembourg for tourism or short visits. As a visa-exempt nationality, Canadians may enter the Schengen Area (which includes Luxembourg) for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa. ETIAS is not yet required as of 31 May 2026. Luxembourg is a member of the Schengen Area, and Canada is on the EU's visa-exemption list for short stays. A Canadian citizen holding an ordinary passport can travel to Luxembourg for tourism, business, family visits, or transit without a visa, staying up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen zone (not just Luxembourg). The passport must be issued within the previous 10 years and remain valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure date from Schengen. As of 31 May 2026, no electronic pre-authorisation (ETIAS) is yet required: ETIAS is scheduled to begin in the last quarter of 2026, followed by a transitional period of at least six months during which it is recommended but not mandatory. Mandatory enforcement is expected around 2027 at a fee of EUR 20. Separately, the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) is operational and progressively rolling out, so Canadians may be asked to register biometric data (fingerprints and a facial image) at the first Schengen border crossing. Travelers should always carry proof of onward/return travel, sufficient funds, and accommodation details, as border officers may request them. Because rules can shift, verify ETIAS status close to your travel date.
