Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit CO?
Canadian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Colombia and may stay up to 90 days. However, two mandatory steps apply: complete the free online Check-MIG form before arrival, and pay a reciprocity entry fee of COP 270,000 (about CAD 85) on arrival (or prepay online). A Canadian citizen holding an ordinary passport can enter Colombia visa-free for tourism, leisure, or short business for up to 90 days per entry. Immigration officers grant the stay on arrival, and it can be extended at a Migracion Colombia office up to a maximum of 180 days within the same calendar year. Two requirements distinguish Colombia from typical visa-free destinations. First, every traveler must complete the free Check-MIG electronic immigration form online within the window before boarding (officially up to 72 hours and at least 1 hour before departure; many sources advise within 24 hours). Second, since 14 November 2023 Colombia charges Canadians a reciprocity entry fee of COP 270,000 (roughly CAD 85), introduced in response to the biometric fee Canada charges Colombian visa applicants. The fee is paid by credit/debit card on arrival at Migracion Colombia or prepaid online, and is valid for one calendar year (covering multiple entries in that year). Travelers under 14 or over 79, holders of a valid Colombian visa, and those traveling only to the San Andres archipelago are exempt. Passport should remain valid for the entire stay (many carriers and agencies recommend 6 months validity). Colombia is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Proof of onward/return travel and, for certain regions such as the Amazon, a yellow fever vaccination certificate may be requested.
