Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit CD?
Yes. A Canadian ordinary-passport holder needs a visa to enter the Democratic Republic of the Congo for tourism. The Government of Canada advises applying in advance at the DRC Embassy in Ottawa; visas are not issued on arrival. Canadian citizens are not visa-exempt for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). According to the Government of Canada travel advisory (travel.gc.ca), Canadians must obtain a visa from the DRC Embassy in Ottawa before leaving Canada, and visas cannot be obtained at ports of entry. While the DRC operates an electronic visa system (the official portal is evisa.gouv.cd) and various commercial agents advertise a tourist eVisa, Canada's official advisory still directs travellers to the embassy, so the safe, confirmed channel is an embassy/consular visa applied for in advance. A passport valid for at least six months beyond departure, passport photos, a return ticket, proof of accommodation and (for tourism) a yellow fever vaccination certificate are required. Note a mandatory exit tax: all air passengers leaving the DRC pay the IDEF / "Go Pass" airport infrastructure tax of about US$58. Travellers using the eVisa route also face a US$90 entry fee (VAP) payable at the border. Because sources conflict on whether the eVisa is fully reliable for Canadians and the official Canadian source points to the embassy, the conservative verdict is visa-required.
