Canadian passport holders can get a 30-day single-entry Visa on Arrival at Bangladesh's main international airports (Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet) for about USD 50-51, paid in cash. Bangladesh is NOT visa-free for Canadians, and the Government of Canada advises arranging a visa in advance through a Bangladesh mission to avoid the real risk of being refused entry, since VoA issuance is at the immigration officer's discretion. Bangladesh requires a visa from Canadian ordinary passport holders. Canada is on the list of nationalities eligible for Visa on Arrival (VoA), which is granted for tourism or business stays of up to 30 days, single entry, at the three international airports: Dhaka (Hazrat Shahjalal), Chittagong (Shah Amanat) and Sylhet (Osmani). The VoA fee is USD 50 (official Special Branch figure; commonly quoted as USD 51 including taxes) and must be paid in cash in USD, GBP or EUR (credit cards are generally not accepted at the counter). Travelers must show a confirmed return/onward ticket, hotel booking, and proof of sufficient funds (at least USD 500 in cash or on a credit card). Crucially, VoA is discretionary: issuance is not guaranteed and the Government of Canada explicitly warns there is a risk of being denied entry. For this reason, and for any stay longer than 30 days, multiple entries, or arrival by land or sea (where VoA is unreliable), the recommended route is to obtain a visa in advance. Canada-based applicants apply online via the Bangladesh MRV portal (visa.gov.bd) and submit to the High Commission in Ottawa or Consulate General in Toronto. A passport valid for at least 6 months on arrival is required.
