Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit AO?
Canadian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourist visits to Angola of up to 30 days per entry. Angola exempted Canada (among 98 countries) from tourist visas under Presidential Decree 189/23 in 2023, and the Government of Canada confirms no tourist visa is required for stays up to 30 days at a time, capped at a maximum of 90 days within one calendar year. Since the entry into force of Angola's Presidential Decree No. 189/23 (29 September 2023), citizens of 98 countries, including Canada, may enter Angola for tourism without any visa. A Canadian ordinary passport holder can stay up to 30 days per entry. The Government of Canada specifies that visa-free tourist stays are limited to a maximum of 90 days during a single calendar year, while Angola's Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) frames the limit as up to three visa-free entries per calendar year. No advance application, eVisa, or fee is required for the visa-free tourist channel; travelers simply present a qualifying passport on arrival at the border. The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the planned departure and contain blank pages. The exemption is strictly for tourism (and, per a December 2023 clarification, certain short business activities at border officials' discretion); travelers intending to work, study, or stay longer must obtain the appropriate visa in advance. Carrying proof of onward travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds is recommended, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry. Travelers who need to stay beyond 30 days can request a one-time extension while in Angola, or should consider applying for an ordinary tourist visa via the SME pre-approval portal before travel.
