Do Brazil passport holders need a visa to visit UY?

No visa required. Brazilian ordinary passport holders can enter Uruguay visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days under the Mercosur agreement, and may even cross the border using a valid Brazilian national ID (RG) instead of a passport. Brazil and Uruguay are both full members of Mercosur (Mercado Comun del Sur), which grants citizens of member states broad freedom of movement. A Brazilian ordinary passport holder traveling to Uruguay for tourism or a short visit does NOT need a visa. The visa-free stay is up to 90 days, extendable by a further 90 days through the National Migration Directorate (DNM). Because both countries are Mercosur members, Brazilians may enter Uruguay using a valid Brazilian national identity document (Carteira de Identidade / RG) rather than a passport, provided it is in good condition, unexpired, and the photo clearly identifies the holder. Uruguay is in South America and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. No eVisa, ETA, or visa-on-arrival is involved for this nationality. Travelers should still carry valid travel/identity documents, proof of onward or return travel, and evidence of sufficient funds and accommodation, which border officials may request. This is a long-standing, stable arrangement with no 2024-2026 changes affecting Brazilian tourists.
