Brazilian ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Turkmenistan for tourism. A tourist visa requires a Letter of Invitation (LOI) arranged through a licensed Turkmen tour operator and certified by the State Migration Service, then a visa issued by a Turkmen embassy/consulate or collected on arrival at Ashgabat airport. There is no visa-free or functioning e-visa channel as of May 2026. As of 30 May 2026, Turkmenistan requires Brazilian citizens (ordinary passport) to hold a visa for tourist travel. The only practical route for tourists is a tourist visa supported by a Letter of Invitation (LOI) obtained from a Turkmenistan-licensed travel agency or tour operator. The LOI must be certified by the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan and is valid for 3 months from the date of certification; the visa itself is then issued at a Turkmen embassy/consulate (Brazil is served via accredited missions, commonly the embassy in a third country, or through the tour operator's processing) or, with a pre-approved certified LOI, collected on arrival at Ashgabat International Airport. Turkmenistan is NOT in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. A notable recent development: on 14 April 2025 Turkmenistan's parliament amended the Migration Law to legally remove the LOI requirement in favour of a new electronic-visa system run by the State Migration Service. However, as of early-mid 2026 the e-visa platform is NOT operational, no launch date has been confirmed, and the Presidential decree defining e-visa categories, fees and validity remains unpublished. Travelers are explicitly warned not to book flights expecting e-visa access until the State Migration Service confirms it is live. Therefore the conservative, accurate verdict for a Brazilian tourist today is visa-required via the LOI-based system. Typical tourist visas are issued for stays up to 10 days to 1 month, mostly single-entry, with consular fees in the US$35-75 range plus a substantial LOI/agency service fee. Plan at least 4-6 weeks ahead.
