Do Brazil passport holders need a visa to visit RO?

No visa needed. Brazilian ordinary passport holders can enter Romania visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Romania is a full Schengen member since 2025, so Brazil's Schengen visa waiver applies. ETIAS is not yet required (expected Q4 2026). Romania became a full member of the Schengen Area in 2025 (air and sea borders opened in March 2024, land borders on 1 January 2025). Brazilian ordinary passport holders are listed among the visa-exempt nationalities (EU Annex II), reinforced by the EU-Brazil short-stay visa waiver agreement. They may enter Romania and the wider Schengen Area without a visa for tourism, business or family visits for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. Days spent in any other Schengen country count toward the same 90-day allowance. As of 30 May 2026, no electronic travel authorization is required: ETIAS is expected to launch only in the last quarter of 2026, and the EES (Entry/Exit System) registers travelers at the border but does not require a pre-application. Travelers should hold a passport valid for the whole stay (six months' validity recommended to avoid airline issues) and be ready to show proof of accommodation, onward/return travel, sufficient funds and travel insurance. For stays beyond 90 days or for work/study, a national long-stay visa or residence permit is required.

How to apply

/01
Confirm your passport is valid
Ensure your Brazilian ordinary passport is valid for the entire duration of your stay. Six months of remaining validity is strongly recommended to avoid airline boarding problems.
· Before booking
/02
Plan within the 90/180 rule
Calculate that your total time in Romania and any other Schengen country will not exceed 90 days within any 180-day period. There is no application to file for the visa-free stay.
· No visa needed
/03
Prepare supporting documents
Gather proof of accommodation, a return or onward ticket, evidence of sufficient funds and travel medical insurance (minimum EUR 30,000 coverage recommended).
· Carry on arrival
/04
Check ETIAS status before you fly
As of mid-2026 ETIAS is not yet required. Verify the official ETIAS launch date (expected Q4 2026); once live you will need a EUR 20 online authorization before boarding.
· Q4 2026 expected
/05
Travel and clear border control
On arrival a Romanian border officer (Schengen rules) may ask the purpose of your trip and supporting documents. The Entry/Exit System (EES) records your entry and exit electronically.
· At the border
/06
Track your days and exit on time
Keep count of days used in the Schengen Area and depart before reaching 90 days. Overstaying can lead to fines and future entry bans.
