Do Brazil passport holders need a visa to visit KE?
Brazilian ordinary passport holders must obtain a Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) online before travel. There is no visa-on-arrival or visa-free channel for Brazil; the eTA is mandatory for all visitors except a short exempt list (EAC members, most African nations, and a few others). It costs about USD 30, allows a stay of up to 90 days, and should be applied for at least 3 days before departure. Since 1 January 2024 Kenya abolished traditional visas for tourism and replaced them with a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) for nearly all foreign nationals. Brazil is NOT on Kenya's eTA-exempt list (which, after the 2025 amendments, covers East African Community members, most African nations except Libya and Somalia, and certain permanent-residence holders). Therefore a Brazilian citizen holding an ordinary passport must apply for and receive an approved eTA before boarding. The eTA is applied for entirely online at the official portal etakenya.go.ke. The base government fee is USD 30 (the total charged is around USD 32.50 once the card-processing surcharge is added). Each eTA is single-entry and valid for one trip; it must be used within 90 days of issuance and permits a stay of up to 90 days for tourism. Applicants should apply at least 3 business days before travel (applications open up to 90 days ahead). Note that holders of Brazilian diplomatic, official or service passports are exempt from the eTA for stays up to 90 days, but this guide covers ordinary passports, which require the eTA.
