Australian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for El Salvador. You enter visa-free for tourism for up to 180 days, buying a USD 12 tourist card on arrival. El Salvador grants visa-free entry to Australian ordinary passport holders for tourism and business for up to 180 days. There is no advance visa or eVisa requirement for Australians. On arrival by air you purchase a single-entry tourist card (Tarjeta de Turismo) for USD 12, paid in cash at immigration; this is an entry fee/document, not a visa. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months on the day you arrive, and immigration may ask for proof of onward or return travel. Note that El Salvador belongs to the CA-4 Border Control Agreement (with Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua): travel within these four countries counts toward a shared 90-day allowance, so crossing land borders between CA-4 states does not reset your clock the way the 180-day single-country entry does. El Salvador is NOT in the Schengen Area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. El Salvador launched an online eVisa platform in late 2025, but this is for nationalities that require a visa; Australians remain visa-exempt and do not use it. Overstays can incur a fine payable before departure. Always reconfirm with the Salvadoran consulate before travel, as policies can change.
