Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit PY?
No visa required. Australian ordinary passport holders can enter Paraguay visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days (extendable once for a further 90 days). The visa waiver is confirmed in force until 13 August 2027. Australian citizens holding an ordinary passport do not need a visa to visit Paraguay for tourism or business. Under a visa-waiver arrangement first introduced in August 2021 and extended on 26 August 2024 (now valid until 13 August 2027), Australians, alongside nationals of Canada, New Zealand and the United States, may enter visa-free for up to 90 days. The 90-day stay can be extended once for an additional 90 days through Paraguay's migration authority (Direccion General de Migraciones), giving a maximum stay of 180 days. Travellers should hold a passport valid for at least six months, carry evidence of onward or return travel, and ensure their passport is stamped on arrival. Paraguay is in South America and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 rules and ETIAS do not apply. The waiver covers tourism and business only; any paid work requires separate authorisation. A visa-on-arrival/consular visa channel exists for nationalities that need it (around US$135 single entry), but Australians do not need to use it for short tourist visits. Conditions can change at short notice, so confirm with the nearest Paraguayan embassy or consulate before travel.
