Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit NG?
Yes, an Australian ordinary passport holder needs a visa to visit Nigeria for tourism. Since 1 May 2025 the visa-on-arrival program was scrapped, so the route is now an online eVisa (Tourism Visa F5A / Short Visit Visa) obtained before travel via the Nigeria Immigration Service eVisa portal. Nigeria is not visa-free for Australian citizens and is not part of any visa-waiver or regional bloc that benefits Australians. Under the Nigeria Visa Policy 2025 (effective 1 May 2025), the long-standing Visa-on-Arrival program was abolished for ordinary travellers and replaced by a fully online eVisa system. Australian tourists apply through the Nigeria Immigration Service eVisa portal (evisa.immigration.gov.ng) for a Tourism Visa (category F5A) or Short Visit Visa, upload supporting documents, pay online, and receive an emailed approval letter within 24-48 hours. The printed approval is presented on arrival, where a visa sticker/endorsement is placed in the passport. The tourism visa is single-entry, valid 90 days from issue, permits a stay of up to 30 days, and is non-extendable. Travellers must also complete the digital Landing and Exit Card online before arrival and departure, and a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required for entry. Nigeria is not in the Schengen area, so the 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
