Australian passport holders need a visa for Namibia as of 1 April 2025. Until 31 March 2025, Australians could enter Namibia visa-free. Effective 1 April 2025, Namibia ended this visa exemption for Australia and 32 other nationalities, citing a lack of reciprocity. Australian ordinary passport holders now require a visa for tourism. The standard channel is a Visa on Arrival (VOA) issued at Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek), Walvis Bay airport and harbour, and numerous land borders, at a fee of NAD 1,600 for non-African nationals. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security operates an online portal (eservices.mhaiss.gov.na) where travelers can pre-apply for the visa on arrival before departure; this is strongly recommended to reduce processing time and the risk of being turned away at the border. The VOA is typically issued for up to 30 days and is intended for tourism; stays of up to 90 days can be obtained via a holiday visa or by extending the VOA inside Namibia before it expires. Total tourist stay is capped at 90 days within a 12-month period. Passports must be valid at least 6 months beyond arrival and have at least 3 blank pages. Namibia is in southern Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen/ETIAS rules do not apply.
