Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit MN?

Australian ordinary passport holders can visit Mongolia visa-free for tourism for up to 30 days. This is a temporary exemption valid until 31 December 2026; from 2027 an eVisa is expected to be required. As of 31 May 2026, holders of an Australian ordinary passport do not need a visa for tourist or short visits to Mongolia of up to 30 days. Mongolia introduced a unilateral visa-free exemption for 34 countries (including Australia) effective 4 January 2023, and has extended it through 31 December 2026 as part of its "Years to Visit Mongolia" tourism campaign. The official Mongolian consular service confirms the Commonwealth of Australia is exempt for all passport types for tourism stays of up to 30 days. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months on arrival with at least one blank page. No advance application or fee is required for entry. Note an important registration rule: visitors planning to stay longer than 30 days (or whose cumulative stay will exceed 30 days) must register with the Mongolian Immigration Agency in Ulaanbaatar within 7 days of arrival; hotels and ger camps usually handle this. Stays beyond 30 days require a visa/extension obtained in advance or in-country. Because the waiver is temporary, travelers should confirm its status before booking, as Mongolia has signaled that from 2027 Australians and most Europeans will likely need an eVisa.
