Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit ME?
No visa required. Australian ordinary passport holders can enter Montenegro visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Australian ordinary passport holders do not need a visa to visit Montenegro for tourism or short visits. They may stay visa-free for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. Montenegro is NOT part of the Schengen Area, so this 90/180 allowance is separate from any Schengen stay; however, Montenegro applies a Schengen-style 90/180 rule of its own. ETIAS does not apply to Montenegro. On arrival, travellers must register their address with the local police within 24 hours (hotels and licensed accommodation usually do this automatically). Passports should be valid for at least the duration of stay, ideally with several months' validity remaining, and border officers may ask for proof of onward travel, accommodation, sufficient funds (around EUR 50/day), and travel health insurance. To stay beyond 90 days, a temporary residence permit must be applied for via the Ministry of Interior before the visa-free period expires. Montenegro uses the euro (EUR).
