Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit MD?
Australian passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist visits to Moldova. You can stay visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Australia is on Moldova's official list of visa-exempt countries, confirmed by the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Moldovan e-Visa authority. Ordinary Australian passport holders may enter Moldova for tourism, business or transit without any visa and stay up to 90 days within a rolling 180-day period. No advance application, eVisa or visa-on-arrival is required for this purpose. Moldova is NOT in the Schengen Area or the EU, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply here; Moldova operates its own independent 90/180 entry regime, and days spent in Moldova are counted separately from any Schengen allowance. At the border, Australians should carry a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure date, and be ready to show proof of onward/return travel, accommodation and sufficient funds. Visa-free entry does not permit paid employment. Travellers heading to or through the breakaway Transnistria region face separate, unregulated controls and should check current advice. Anyone wishing to stay longer than 90 days, work, study or reside must obtain the appropriate long-stay visa or residence permit in advance via Moldova's e-Visa system.
