Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit LU?
No visa needed. Australian ordinary passport holders can enter Luxembourg (a Schengen country) visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. ETIAS is not yet required as of 31 May 2026 but is expected from late 2026. Luxembourg is part of the Schengen Area, and Australia is on the EU's visa-exempt list (Annex II) for short stays. Australian ordinary passport holders may enter Luxembourg and the wider Schengen Area without a visa for tourism, business or family visits for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. No advance authorisation is required at present. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is scheduled to begin in the last quarter of 2026, after which Australians will need a pre-travel ETIAS authorisation (fee EUR 20, valid up to 3 years), but it is NOT in force as of 31 May 2026 and there will be a transitional period of at least six months once it launches. Passports should be valid for at least three months beyond the planned date of departure from Schengen and issued within the previous 10 years. Travellers should be ready to show proof of onward/return travel, sufficient funds, accommodation and travel insurance at the external Schengen border. The 90-day allowance is cumulative across ALL Schengen states, not per country, so time spent in other Schengen countries counts toward the limit.
