Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit KE?
Australian passport holders cannot enter Kenya visa-free. They must obtain a Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) online before travel. It costs about USD 32.50, is single-entry, valid for 90 days from issue, and allows a tourist stay of up to 90 days. Since 1 January 2024, Kenya abolished the traditional visa and now requires almost all foreign visitors, including Australians, to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before travel. The eTA is applied for online at the official government portal etakenya.go.ke. The standard fee is USD 30 plus a card/service charge bringing the total to about USD 32.50, with optional expedited processing for an extra USD 100. Standard processing takes up to 3 working days (72 hours). The eTA is single-entry and valid for 90 days from the date of issue; the immigration officer at the port of entry grants the actual permitted stay, which is up to 90 days for tourism. Every traveler, including infants and children, needs their own eTA. On 30 May 2025, Kenya amended the program to exempt most African nationals and some previously visa-exempt countries, but Australia is NOT on the exemption list, so Australian ordinary passport holders still require an eTA. The eTA is not a visa-free or visa-on-arrival channel; it must be approved before boarding. Kenya is in East Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply.
