Australian passport holders need an eVisa to visit Equatorial Guinea for tourism. Apply online before you travel via the official portal, then enter through Malabo International Airport with your approved eVisa letter and a valid yellow fever certificate. Australia is not on Equatorial Guinea's short list of visa-exempt nationalities (which covers only Barbados, Tunisia, Turkey, the UAE and CEMAC member states). All other travelers, including Australians, must obtain an electronic visa (eVisa) before arrival. Equatorial Guinea launched its online visa system on 1 July 2023, replacing the previous embassy-only process for many nationalities. The eVisa is applied for through the official government portal (equatorialguinea-evisa.com); applicants submit passport and trip details, upload supporting documents, and pay the government fee. Short-term tourist eVisas are valid for stays of up to 90 days. Approval is typically issued within 24 to 72 hours, after which travelers print the approval letter and present it to border officials, who issue the visa stamp on arrival. eVisa holders are required to enter via Malabo International Airport. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry, the passport must be valid for at least six months beyond arrival, and travelers should carry proof of sufficient funds and onward arrangements. Because sources are consistent that no visa-free channel exists for Australians, the verdict is eVisa. Equatorial Guinea is in Central Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
