No visa is required. Australian passport holders can visit Greenland visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days, because Australia is on Greenland's visa-exemption list (it mirrors the Schengen short-stay exemption list). Greenland is NOT part of the Schengen Area, so a Schengen visa does not cover it and ETIAS does not apply to Greenland itself. Greenland is a self-governing territory of the Kingdom of Denmark but lies outside the European Union and the Schengen Area. It applies its own entry rules, administered through Danish consular missions and the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI). Australia is among the 100+ nationalities exempt from a visa for short stays, so an Australian ordinary passport holder may enter Greenland for tourism without any visa for up to 90 days. Because Greenland is not in Schengen, a Schengen visa or future ETIAS authorisation does not by itself permit entry to Greenland; conversely, ETIAS is not required for Greenland. Travellers should note that almost all routes to Greenland connect through Copenhagen (Denmark) or Reykjavik (Iceland), both Schengen. From late 2026 the Schengen transit leg through Denmark will require ETIAS for Australians, even though the final Greenland destination does not. Carry a passport valid well beyond the trip (commonly 6 months recommended) with blank pages; no separate entry permit is needed for visa-exempt tourists.
