Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit GE?
Australian ordinary passport holders can travel to Georgia visa-free for tourism and stay up to 1 year (365 days) per entry. No visa or eVisa is needed. However, since 1 January 2026 all visitors must carry valid travel/health insurance covering their entire stay. Australia is on Georgia's list of countries whose citizens may enter without a visa for stays of up to 365 days, one of the most generous visa-free allowances in the world. This applies to tourism, business and short visits. Australians simply present a valid passport at the border and receive an entry stamp. There is no fee, no eVisa, and no pre-arrival application for stays within the one-year window. The key recent change is that, effective 1 January 2026, Georgia made travel/health and accident insurance mandatory for ALL foreign visitors, including visa-free travelers. The policy must provide minimum coverage of 30,000 GEL, cover the full period of stay including arrival and departure dates, be issued by a Georgian or foreign insurer, and be presentable in physical or electronic form in Georgian or English. Travelers without it may be refused entry or fined (reported around 300 GEL); airlines are checking documents at check-in and boarding. Georgia is NOT in the Schengen area or the EU, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Standard recommendations: passport valid at least 6 months beyond intended stay, and proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds may be requested.
