Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit EE?
Australian ordinary passport holders can visit Estonia visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism. Estonia is in the Schengen Area, so no visa is required for short stays. ETIAS is not yet in force (expected late 2026), but the biometric Entry/Exit System (EES) is operating at borders. Estonia is a full member of the Schengen Area. As an Australian ordinary passport holder, you are a Schengen visa-exempt national and may enter Estonia and the wider Schengen zone for tourism, business or family visits without a visa for a maximum of 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. The 90 days are cumulative across ALL Schengen countries, not per country. Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date and should have been issued within the last 10 years. At the border you must be prepared to show proof of onward/return travel, accommodation and sufficient funds. As of 31 May 2026, no electronic travel authorisation is required: the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026 (with a transitional grace period before it becomes mandatory) and will then cost EUR 20. The Entry/Exit System (EES), which records biometric data (fingerprints and a facial photo) at first entry, has begun phased rollout, so expect biometric registration on arrival. For stays beyond 90 days, work, study or residence, an Estonian national (long-stay) visa or residence permit is required.
