Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit CZ?
Australian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourist or short visits to Czechia. As an EU Schengen-Annex-II nationality, Australians may enter visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. ETIAS is not yet in force (launch expected Q4 2026), so no advance authorisation is required as of 31 May 2026. Czechia (Czech Republic) is a full member of the Schengen Area, and Australia is on the EU list of countries whose citizens are exempt from the short-stay visa requirement. An Australian ordinary passport holder can therefore travel to Czechia for tourism, family visits, business meetings or transit without a visa, staying up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area combined. The passport should be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure date and issued within the previous 10 years. Border officers may ask for proof of onward/return travel, sufficient funds, accommodation and travel medical insurance. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) records entries and exits electronically. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) — a roughly EUR 20 online pre-travel authorisation valid 3 years — is expected to become operational in the last quarter of 2026, after which Australians will need to obtain it before travelling; it is NOT yet required as of 31 May 2026. Visa-free status is for non-profit purposes only; work or paid business activity requires a separate permit. Stays beyond 90/180 require a national long-stay visa or residence permit.
