Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit CY?
Australian ordinary passport holders do not need a visa for short tourist visits to Cyprus and can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. ETIAS is not yet required (scheduled for late 2026). Cyprus is a European Union member state but is NOT yet part of the Schengen Area, so it operates its own visa policy that closely mirrors the Schengen acquis. Australian ordinary passport holders are visa-exempt for short stays and may enter Cyprus for tourism without a visa for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. Because Cyprus is outside Schengen, this 90/180 allowance is calculated SEPARATELY from time spent in the Schengen Area, so days in Cyprus do not count against the Schengen 90-day budget (and vice versa). At the border, travellers should carry a passport valid for at least the duration of stay (a comfortable margin of 3-6 months is strongly recommended), proof of onward or return travel, evidence of sufficient funds, and accommodation details. As of 31 May 2026, no electronic travel authorisation is required: the EU's ETIAS will apply to Cyprus and Schengen and is scheduled to go live in the last quarter of 2026, with a transitional grace period thereafter. Until ETIAS is operational, Australians simply present their passport on arrival. Travellers should re-check official sources close to departure as the ETIAS launch date approaches.
