Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit AR?
Australian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Argentina for tourism. You may stay visa-free for up to 90 days, and there is no longer any reciprocity/entry fee (abolished 1 July 2017). Argentina grants visa-free entry to holders of an Australian ordinary passport for tourism and short business visits of up to 90 days per entry. No prior application, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival is required, and there is no electronic travel authorisation system. Argentina previously charged Australians a "reciprocity fee" (introduced December 2009) but this was suspended/abolished effective 1 July 2017, so entry is now free of charge. The 90-day stay is granted on arrival by an immigration officer at the port of entry and can be extended once for an additional 90 days at the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones (a fee applies for the extension). Travellers should hold a passport valid for the duration of their stay (six months' validity is commonly recommended), proof of onward/return travel, and evidence of sufficient funds and accommodation, which border officers may request. Argentina is in South America and is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Overstaying the authorised period incurs a fine payable on departure. This verdict is confirmed by Argentina's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Australian Embassy in Buenos Aires, and the official visa policy record.
