Austrian (ordinary) passport holders need a visa for Guinea-Bissau but can obtain a visa on arrival at Bissau Osvaldo Vieira International Airport for tourist stays of up to 90 days. An eVisa is also available online as a pre-travel alternative. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory. Austria is not on Guinea-Bissau's short list of visa-exempt nationalities (mainly ECOWAS and a few others), so Austrian tourists require a visa. The standard, long-established route is a visa on arrival (VOA) granted at the airport in Bissau, valid for a single entry and a stay of up to 90 days, paid in cash (commonly around EUR 85 / approx. 55,000 XOF). Since 2024, an eVisa can also be arranged online through authorized service providers as a more predictable alternative, with approval typically in a few days to a week. For both channels a passport valid at least 6 months, an International Certificate of Vaccination against yellow fever, proof of onward travel and accommodation are required. Because Guinea-Bissau is in West Africa, the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply here. Where queues, late-night arrivals, or group/mixed-passport travel are a concern, obtaining the eVisa in advance is recommended.
