The recommended and standard route is the Ethiopia electronic visa (eVisa), open to all nationalities, applied for online at the official Ethiopian Immigration and Citizenship Service portal (evisa.gov.et). Visa-on-arrival for non-resident foreign nationals has been suspended since 2022 and remains unavailable, so travelers should not rely on obtaining a visa at the airport. The standard tourist eVisa grants a 30-day single-entry stay (fee approximately USD 62, reduced from USD 82); a 90-day single-entry option (approximately USD 152) has been offered intermittently. Critically, eVisa holders must enter Ethiopia through Addis Ababa Bole International Airport only; entry at other ports is not permitted on an eVisa.
