No visa needed. Austrian citizens travel to Estonia visa-free under EU freedom of movement, with no stay limit and no ETIAS requirement. Austria and Estonia are both European Union member states and both belong to the Schengen Area. As an EU citizen, an Austrian ordinary passport holder enjoys full freedom of movement and needs no visa, residence permit, or prior authorisation to enter Estonia for tourism or any other purpose. There are no internal border checks between Schengen states, so travellers typically pass without systematic immigration control, though officials may request proof of identity. A valid Austrian passport or national identity card is sufficient; the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that driving licences, bank cards or similar documents are not accepted as travel documents. The Schengen 90/180-day short-stay rule and the upcoming ETIAS travel authorisation apply only to visa-exempt non-EU nationals, not to EU citizens. An Austrian may therefore stay in Estonia beyond 90 days; if the stay exceeds three months, EU free-movement rules require registering the right of residence with the local authority (Police and Border Guard Board), but no visa is ever involved. This route is stable and unaffected by the 2024-2026 EES/ETIAS rollout for third-country nationals.
