Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit ET?
UAE ordinary passport holders need a visa for Ethiopia. The recommended route is the Ethiopian eVisa, applied for online before travel. A visa on arrival is also available at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, but applying for the eVisa in advance is faster and avoids airport queues. There is no visa-free access to Ethiopia for United Arab Emirates (Emirati) ordinary passport holders. Ethiopia operates a single online eVisa system that is open to citizens of every nationality, including the UAE, and it is the standard and recommended way to enter for tourism. The application is fully online at the official portal evisa.gov.et: you complete the form, upload a passport bio-page scan and a photo, pay the government fee by card, and receive an electronic visa by email. The most common tourist option is a single-entry visa allowing a stay of up to 30 days, with a 90-day single-entry option also available. The government fee is USD 62 for the 30-day visa and USD 152 for the 90-day visa (third-party agencies add service charges). Approval is often issued within about 3 business days, though the portal advises allowing up to several business days. A visa on arrival is also obtainable at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, but the eVisa is preferable because it confirms entry permission before you fly and reduces processing time at the airport. Transit passengers who remain inside the airport for under 8 hours do not need a visa. Travelers should carry a passport valid for at least six months with blank pages, proof of onward or return travel, and accommodation details.
