South Africa to Uganda visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders need a visa for Uganda. They are not on Uganda's visa-exempt list, so the standard route is to apply online for a Uganda tourist eVisa (USD 50, single entry, stay up to 90 days) before travel via the official government portal. As of mid-2026, holders of an ordinary South African passport are NOT visa-exempt for Uganda. Only South African diplomatic and service passport holders enjoy a 3-month visa waiver; ordinary passport holders must obtain a visa in advance. Uganda discontinued generic visa-on-arrival for most nationalities and now requires applicants to apply online through the official electronic visa system at visas.immigration.go.ug. For tourism, the relevant product is the single-entry Tourist Visa, which costs USD 50 (plus a small non-refundable bank/processing charge), is valid for entry within 90 days of approval, and permits a stay of up to 90 days. The passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond the intended date of arrival and have blank pages. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry into Uganda. Travelers should beware of numerous unofficial third-party sites that overcharge (USD 110-200); the only correct portal is visas.immigration.go.ug. Travelers planning a multi-country East Africa trip (Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda) may instead opt for the 90-day East Africa Tourist Visa at USD 100. Uganda is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply.
