🇿🇦South Africa🇹🇱Timor-LesteZA-TL South Africa to Timor-Leste visa requirements
South African ordinary passport holders can get a 30-day tourist visa on arrival at Dili's Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport (and Dili Sea Port) for USD 30 cash. Timor-Leste does not visa-exempt South Africa, and the visa-on-arrival channel is only valid at the airport/seaport — land border crossings require a visa obtained in advance. Timor-Leste (TL) is not in the Schengen area and does not grant visa-free entry to South African (ZA) ordinary passport holders. However, because South Africa is a non-exempt nationality, its citizens may apply for a Tourist Visa on Arrival when entering through Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili or the Dili Sea Port. The visa costs USD 30 (cash), grants a single entry and a 30-day stay, and can be extended once for a further 30 days (USD 40) through the Immigration Service. Travelers must hold a passport valid at least 6 months with two blank pages, proof of onward/return travel, sufficient funds, and accommodation details. Crucially, the VOA facility is limited to the airport and seaport: anyone entering Timor-Leste overland (for example from Indonesian West Timor) must obtain a visa in advance, as no visa is issued at land borders for non-exempt nationalities. All arriving passengers should also complete the online e-Declaration / arrival form before travel. Pay the fee in US dollars cash, since border posts may have no ATM or currency exchange. This guidance is verified against the Immigration Service of Timor-Leste (migracao.gov.tl), the official tourism portal, and the published visa policy.
