South Africa to Togo visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for Togo. As of 18 May 2026, Togo grants visa-free entry to all African Union passport holders for tourist stays of up to 30 days. You must still complete the mandatory online travel declaration at voyage.gouv.tg at least 24 hours before arrival and carry a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Effective 18 May 2026, Togo's Ministry of Security (directive signed by Security Minister Calixte Batossie Madjoulba) waived visa requirements for nationals of all African Union member states for short stays of up to 30 days. South Africa is an AU member, so an ordinary South African passport holder traveling for tourism enters Togo visa-free for up to 30 days. The waiver removes the visa itself but does NOT remove other entry formalities: every traveler must complete the online pre-arrival travel/immigration declaration on the official platform (voyage.gouv.tg) at least 24 hours before departure and print the resulting travel slip, hold a passport valid for the duration of stay (six months recommended), present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (Togo is a yellow fever endemic country and the certificate is checked on arrival), and be able to show proof of accommodation and an onward/return ticket if requested. Standard immigration, health and security screening continues at Lomé–Tokoin International Airport. The previously required e-visa (which cost around 6,000 CFA francs and processed within about five business days on voyage.gouv.tg) is now only relevant for non-African nationals or for stays longer than 30 days. Before this 2026 change, South Africans needed a Togo e-visa, so older guidance online may be out of date. Sources consulted include the official voyage.gouv.tg platform and multiple corroborating reports of the May 2026 announcement; because the waiver is recent, travelers should re-confirm with the Togolese diplomatic mission close to departure.
