South Africa to Rwanda visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa in advance for Rwanda. As an African Union, Commonwealth and La Francophonie member state, South Africa qualifies for a free visa on arrival valid for a 30-day tourist stay, issued at no cost at the port of entry. Rwanda operates a universal visa-on-arrival policy, but for citizens of African Union, Commonwealth and La Francophonie member states the entry visa fee is fully waived. South Africa belongs to all three groups, so South African ordinary passport holders receive a free visa on arrival at Kigali International Airport and other ports of entry, valid for stays of up to 30 days for tourism or a short visit. No prior application or payment is required, though travelers may optionally apply online via the Irembo portal in advance. Passports should be valid for at least six months. While Rwanda is welcoming and the process is straightforward, this is technically a visa on arrival (free of charge) rather than fully visa-free entry. Rwanda is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply.
