South Africa to Nicaragua visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Nicaragua and may stay up to 90 days. A US$10 tourist card is purchased on arrival, and travelers should complete the online pre-arrival immigration form before departure. South Africa remained on the visa-exempt list after Nicaragua's February 2026 visa reform (Provision 002-2026). As of 30 May 2026, South Africa (ordinary passport) holders enjoy visa-free access to Nicaragua for tourism and short visits of up to 90 days. Nicaragua's immigration reform under Provision 002-2026, effective 16 February 2026, eliminated most visa-on-arrival channels and moved over 120 nationalities to a "consulted visa", but South Africa retained its visa-exempt (Category A) status. No advance visa application is required. On arrival, all visa-exempt travelers buy a tourist card (Tarjeta de Turismo) for US$10, payable in cash. Nicaragua now also requires visitors to submit an online immigration/entry form before travel (commonly at least 7 days ahead). The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, and travelers should carry proof of onward travel and sufficient funds. Nicaragua is in Central America and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply; however, Nicaragua participates in the CA-4 (Central America-4) free-movement zone with Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, meaning time spent across these four countries may count toward a combined 90-day regional limit. Sources consulted consistently confirm the visa-free verdict.
