South Africa to Ecuador visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Ecuador. You receive a free 90-day "Tourist Stamp" (T-3) on arrival, valid for up to 90 days within any 12-month period. South Africa is not on Ecuador's list of visa-required nationalities, so holders of an ordinary South African passport may enter Ecuador visa-free for tourism and receive a Tourist Stamp (T-3) granting up to 90 days of stay within a rolling 12-month period — no advance visa, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival application is required. Ecuador is in South America and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. At the border you must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months, and immigration may request proof of onward/return travel, sufficient funds, and accommodation; travel/health insurance is strongly recommended. Note recent tightening of Ecuador's visa policy: in July 2024 China was moved to visa-required status and in 2025 transit-visa rules were announced for visa-required nationals — but neither affects South African ordinary passport holders, who remain visa-exempt. Visitors to the Galapagos Islands pay separate park and transit-control-card fees. As enforcement of entry conditions has become stricter, carry documentation.
