South Africa to Algeria visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders need a visa to visit Algeria for tourism. You must apply in advance at the Algerian Embassy in Pretoria (or your country of residence). There is no general visa-on-arrival or eVisa; the only exception is an organized tour to certain southern desert regions, which can qualify for a visa on arrival of up to 30 days. Algeria is not visa-free for South African (ZA) citizens. Holders of an ordinary ZA passport must obtain a tourist (short-stay) entry visa before travel from an Algerian diplomatic mission, normally the Embassy of Algeria in Pretoria. Algeria does not currently operate a general eVisa or visa-on-arrival scheme for South Africans; the sole exception is travelers on tours to designated southern (Sahara) regions arranged through an approved Algerian travel agency, who may receive a visa on arrival valid up to 30 days. The standard tourist visa is applied for in person (or via an authorized proxy/visa service), with applications generally processed within about 7 working days. According to the Algerian Embassy/Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the entry visa for South African nationals is issued free of charge (gratis), though commercial visa-service agents add their own handling fees. Required documents include a passport valid at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, a completed application form, photos, a confirmed round-trip ticket, and proof of accommodation (hotel booking or a certified invitation/certificate of accommodation). Passports containing Israeli visas or stamps may lead to refusal of entry. No 2024-2026 reform (visa waiver, eVisa, or ETA) for ZA passport holders was found, so the conservative and correct verdict is visa-required.
