South Africa to Dominican Republic visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourist visits to the Dominican Republic. Entry is granted via the Tourist Card, which is included in the price of your airline ticket (no separate purchase for air arrivals). You must also complete the free online Migration E-Ticket before arrival and departure. The standard tourist stay is 30 days, extendable in-country. As of mid-2026, the Dominican Republic permits South African passport holders to enter visa-free for tourism. There is no visa application, no embassy appointment, and no advance approval. The entry mechanism is the Dominican "Tarjeta de Turista" (Tourist Card): since 2018 its USD 10 value has been bundled into airline ticket prices, so air travelers do not buy it separately at the airport. Separately and mandatorily, every passenger (foreign and Dominican) must complete the free Electronic Entry/Exit Form (E-Ticket) on the official migration portal before both arrival and departure; this generates a QR code presented at check-in and immigration. The standard tourist admission is 30 days. Overstays beyond 30 days are permitted on payment of a graduated surcharge calculated at departure, or the stay can be formally extended at the Dirección General de Migración in Santo Domingo (extendable up to 120 days). Passports should be valid for the duration of stay (six months' validity is the safe, widely-cited standard). Travelers should carry proof of onward/return travel, accommodation details, and evidence of sufficient funds. The Dominican Republic is in the Caribbean and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply.
