South Africa to Bolivia visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Bolivia for tourism. As of 1 December 2025, Bolivia moved South Africa into its visa-exempt Group 1, allowing visa-free entry for up to 90 days per calendar year. Bolivia overhauled its visa policy on 1 December 2025, reclassifying South Africa (along with the United States, Israel, South Korea, Romania and several others) into Group 1 — the visa-exempt category. South African ordinary passport holders can now enter Bolivia visa-free for tourism, business, transit, cultural exchange and family visits for up to 90 days per calendar year, with no fee and no advance application. Entry is typically stamped for an initial 30 days at the border, which can be extended free of charge up to the 90-day annual limit at SEGEMIG (migration) offices inside Bolivia. Travelers still need a passport valid at least 6 months, proof of onward/return travel, proof of accommodation and, where requested, proof of sufficient funds. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required only if arriving from or transiting a yellow-fever-endemic country (e.g. Brazil, Peru, Colombia) and is strongly recommended if visiting Amazon/lowland regions. Because this is a very recent unilateral change, travelers should confirm with the Bolivian Embassy or an airline at check-in shortly before departure. Bolivia is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
